4 Different Types of Property for Your New Home

There are hundreds of decisions you need to make when you’re buying a new home. One of the major decisions to make is what type of house you should buy. There are several different options for the age and layout of your house, including new builds, period properties and bungalows. The home you choose will depend on your budget, your needs and of course your personal taste. Buying a house is a big event, and it requires a lot of consideration before you take the plunge. Think carefully about these different types of home before you start viewing properties. You might find that the property for you is something you haven’t considered before.

Period Property

House buyers often buy properties that have been previously owned, but period properties go one step further. These properties aren’t just houses that have belonged to someone else. They’re beautiful properties that have retained some or all of the original features from when they were built, up to hundreds of years ago. If you’re a history buff or you love design influenced by the past, a period property could be for you. However, keep in mind that they might need a lot of work, both inside and out. Plus, some period properties fall under local regulations that forbid certain alterations. Check what you’re allowed to do with a period property before you go ahead and buy it.

New Build

If new and shiny is more your thing, then a newly built house is probably more to your liking. They could be more expensive than older homes, but it’s worth it for a home that’s in pristine condition. You could have your home built from scratch, either on your own plot of land or as part of a development. Or you could buy a home on a property development, which means you can either view a show home or pick a ready-made home. Building from scratch will give you more control over the look and feel of your home. But choosing a home on a development might allow you to customize some things too.

People don’t often consider bungalows when they’re buying a house. Often buyers see them as something for retired people, because they’re very accessible. Although you can have less floor space with a bungalow, they can be a great alternative choice for your home. They’re perfect if you want to have an open-plan design or if you don’t want to ruin the flow of your home by splitting it into different levels. And, of course, there is the added benefit of their accessibility for anyone who has mobility issues.

Of course, your home doesn’t have to be a house. Many people prefer the feeling of an apartment to a house. Apartment buildings can have a community atmosphere, plus many have great facilities likes gyms and pools. If you don’t have a family, you might feel that you don’t need a house. An apartment can be just as good for a single person or couple, and they’re usually cheaper too.
